Services & Treatment Programs Riverbend offers a variety of services for adults and children in Northwest Alabama. These services include outpatient and residential programs and individual, family, and group sessions designed to meet the needs of each client. Outpatient services are provided to children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing psychiatric, adjustment, substance abuse, and behavioral problems that require diagnostic evaluation and/or treatment. Employing over 150 staff including full-time psychiatrists on its Medical Staff, Riverbend offers the most extensive services in North Alabama. ADULT PROGRAMS With one in five adults suffering from some type of mental illness, Riverbend strives to meet the needs of those adults through a variety of methods and programs. Day Programs Riverbend offers several day programs for adults designed to assist the client in reaching a point of stabilization. Day programs traditionally include physician services, communication skills building, medication management, independent living skills, stress management, recreational therapy, alcohol and drug awareness. In addition, these programs include individual, family and group therapy sessions. Cedar House - A Rehabilitative Day Program operating under a "Clubhouse" model employs the concept of staff and members working together, and the development of a supported employment program. A highlight of Cedar House is a catering service available to the community. Residential Programs The goal for clients involved in Riverbend's Residential program is to become equipped to live independently in the community. Emphasis is placed on gaining a better understanding on his/her diagnosis, need for psychotropic medication, and training in social and independent living skills. Outpatient Counseling Riverbend provides services on an outpatient basis to those clients who present with psychiatric, adjustment, substance abuse, and behavioral problems, which require diagnostic evaluation and/or treatment. Individual, family, and group therapy are offered to clients in addition to psycho-educational groups. Treatment may include coordination with family, schools, physicians, and other agencies as appropriate. Substance Abuse Programs Riverbend provides intensive outpatient treatment for the chemically dependent client with both morning and evening programs available. Each of these programs consists of twelve hours weekly of service based upon the twelve-step and medical models of treatment. In addition to traditional substance abuse group therapy, both individual and family therapies are required, as is attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings. Riverbend also provides an aftercare program for clients who have successfully completed our outpatient program. For the dually diagnosed client, psychiatric services are available as appropriate from Riverbend's psychiatric services program. Sunrise Lodge - A residential treatment facility for male substance abusers. Through this program, clients participate in group, individual, and family therapy as well as community self help groups, study groups, chemical dependency education, and skill building related to issues such as family, self-esteem, and stress management. Geriatric Programs Riverbend's Geriatric program is coordinated with local nursing homes. We provide technicians and therapists to assist nursing home residents in their mental and social skills. Our staff works closely with nursing home staff to monitor the needs of this unique population. Therapists conduct psychosocial assessments based on a referral to our services from the primary care physician and/or Director of Nursing. The technicians focus on daily living skills maintenance. Our Geriatric staff recognizes the importance of family support and participation in the success of these clients. Therefore, we work to include the family and others in the processes. CHILD/ADOLESCENT PROGRAMS Summer Programs Riverbend offers a seven-week summer day camp for adolescents between the ages of six and fourteen who display characteristics of emotional conflict, behavioral, psychological, and/or educational difficulties. Students enrolled in this camp participate in counseling sessions, supportive education, and academic remediation in reading and math. In addition, these students participate in various social and recreational activities during the camp. Pre-School Programs Riverbend provides a pre-school day treatment programs designed for children ages two through five who display characteristics of emotional conflict, behavioral, psychological, and/or educational difficulties. Riverbend treatment for pre-school children participating in this program includes behavior modification programs, family therapy, parent education, as well as socialization and recreational activities. Riverbend also seeks to provide a solid pre-academic foundation for the participants. Substance Abuse Programs Riverbend provides intensive outpatient treatment for the chemically dependent adolescent. This program consists of nine hours weekly of service based upon the twelve-step and medical models of treatment. Prevention Services Riverbend's Prevention Services is a community education program focusing on increasing awareness of risk factors involved with alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. Key components include health risks, addiction factors, character building skills, and resistance skills. |
